Today is DAY 1 of General Conference -- the Edmund Inn's 1st time with Direct TV so we can watch it in the comforts of home! We watched the 1st session, then took baths, hung out in bath robes and enjoyed the day. It was reminiscent of my childhood days with Conference piping through the intercom system in every room of the house. I absolutely loved it. My favorite talk was Elder Jeffrey R. Holland. He quoted Orson F. Whitney to say this:
The spirit of the gospel is optimistic; it trusts in God and looks on the bright side of things. The opposite or pessimistic spirit drags men down and away from God, looks on the dark side, murmurs, complains, and is slow to yield obedience.
Then Elder Holland gave us one of his Maxims for living:
No misfortune is so bad that whining about it won't make it worse!
I will hang these quotes in a prominent place in our house. What wisdom!

I would put the one about whining over the dinner area, lest the children should forget!
