Christmas Lyrics - at their best -

The past few weeks, with Christmas carols playing as we drive around town, playing in our home, in church, as well as on television, Conor and Megan have learned a lot of new songs.  Learning the lyrics to Christmas carols reminds me of kids learning the pledge of allegiance.  A young person hears words like "indivisible" as "invisible," and it is quite endearing.  Christmas lyrics, through the lips of children, can be quite adorable and entertaining.  (I wish I could write fast enough, or remember well enough, to capture all of the indistinct lyrics.)

I'll start with my favorite.

Megan was playing with Playmobil people and began singing to the basic tune of "Jingle Bells."  She sang,
"I'm going to find a husband.  I'm going to find a husband right now.  I'm gong to find a husband right now.  I found a husband.  And he's a firefighter.  Now I have a family.  And I have a husband.  Jingle Bells!  Jingle Bells!  Jingle all the way!  Oh what fun it is to ride in a one horse open sleigh!"

Conor noticed, after singing Joy to the World, that it ended with the words "Peace on earth, Good will toward MEN."  He looked up at me with this big smile and said, "It says men, NOT women!"

After a long Sacrament Meeting, our closing song was Silent Night.  The kids had been lying on the floor for awhile and in spite of my prodding did not want to sit upright on a bench/pew like the rest of us.  We concluded the hymn with "Sleep in heavenly peace."  I faintly heard Conor sing, "Fi - na - lly," to the tune of Silent Night.

"Here Comes Santa Claus" was playing on the radio in the car today.  Megan happened to be carrying her little notebook and pen along for our ride, as is very typical with her.  She seems to be taking notes on life.  I listened to her cute little voice sing,
Here comes Santa Claus.  Here comes Santa Claus, write this down, way!  Here comes Santa Claus.  Here comes Santa Claus, write this down, way!

And on a different note, today we got our first flakes of snow.  Conor and Megan were beside themselves with excitement.  Megan did a snow angel in less than a quarter inch of snow on the black top at Conor's school!  The two of them, along with two neighbor kids, went sledding down our street for about an hour too.  They would have stayed out all night if we would have let them.  Seriously.
