Keeps Boredom Away...

I tried to plan at least one outing each day for the kids' Vacation Week, which ends today.

Sundays were easy to plan:  church.  Here's what we did for the remaining days.



Last Saturday we went and saw "Escape from Planet Earth."  We all liked it.  Lots of laughs.  Nothing that offended me.





Monday Conor had a primary party (awesome teacher!) and Megan and I had a little time to shop at a toy store.  The kids also built a fort in our front room.  It became their little reading nook, a sleeping space one night, and a home for Megan's stuffed animals and books.

Tuesday we almost managed to stay home the entire day, but Brian saved the day and took the kids swimming at the Boys and Girls Club that evening!

Wednesday we went ice skating at the Rec. Center.  I was very proud of both Conor and Megan because we had hoped to meet friends there, but they ended up not coming.  Though disappointed, Conor and Megan made an effort to befriend a couple of kids, which resulted in a fantastic game of tag on the ice.

Thursday, again we planned to have friends go with us, but ended up in our regular threesome at Sky Zone in Everett.  Conor and Megan played dodgeball on a gigantic trampoline for 90 full minutes with other kids about their age, red-faced and sweating.

Friday we decided to brave the Discovery Museum in Acton.  It was overly crowded with other enthusiastic school-aged children on vacation, but it's a wonderful museum and the staff there impressed me with their eagerness to help kids explore.  Conor and Megan each created a wooden project that they were very proud of.  Conor built an airplane and Megan built a bird.  They were very determined and focused, and both successfully used a coping saw!  (Take a look at the adorable note Megan wrote to Brian for his assistance in finishing her project...)

And finally, yesterday (Saturday) Megan went to the library to read to a dog named Mari.  Megan was super excited about doing this, as she is very fond of dogs and asks for one at least weekly. Out of all the excursions we went on, she chose this 15 minute activity to write about in her "School Vacation Journal!" While Megan and I hung out at the library Brian took Conor to Dunkin' Donuts and to visit Grandma.







My camera came along on some of the outings and was forgotten for most of them.  Not much documentation, but fun memories nonetheless.  I was just so proud of both Conor and Megan for getting along so well for the entire week.  None of us were completely angelic, but Conor and Megan were together for 9 straight days (216 hours) and impressed me with their great friendship and their ability to entertain one another.
